I asked Fiona:
"Is this list of members visible online or will it be online after updating the site?"

She responded:
" I can't say at the moment. We're looking at the ways we can improve visibility."

This answer isn't very informative and it sounds like we have to wait some time until we know more. In my opinion it can't be that hard to "improve visibility" or add some transparency to the cooperative if you already have clarified who is a member: You just have to limit the "Find an OCLC library" search index to libraries that are classified as OCLC members.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6884044530903590185.post-91664406057628703792011-01-14T11:04:32.717+01:002011-01-14T11:04:32.717+01:00Adrian, I wanted to come back to you on a specific...Adrian, I wanted to come back to you on a specific element of your post that relates to work I have been doing with others for OCLC over the last months. Since the new definition was brought in, much work has gone into clarifying which institutions are members, especially in Europe, Middle East and Africa. We have just concluded a 6 month project to review the membership list as it was drawn up after the change in definition, so that any library, museum or archive that participates in cooperative services with OCLC is considered a member. We also wanted to ensure that we had the right contact person at each member institution, so that we can maintain active communications on matters of membership and governance of the cooperative. The list of members is subject to change. It will be updated quarterly as new libraries join and inactive libraries depart.

We will now be updating our web site and other public communications with some detail behind that current definition and working with member delegates to the Regional Council to develop ways to make member libraries more visible to one another. On this matter, we take your comments fully on board.
Fiona Leslie, OCLC EMEA, Marketing & CommunicationsFiona Lesliehttp://www.oclc.orgnoreply@blogger.com
